APAKAH MERANTAU SOLUSI TERBAIK BAGI PENGANGGURAN MUDA? (ANALISIS PENGARUH MIGRASI SEUMUR HIDUP DAN MIGRASI RISEN TERHADAP STATUS NOT IN EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION OR TRAINING DI INDONESIA)

Abstract

Youths are the population most likely to migrate, mainly supported by unlimited access to information in the current 4.0 era. However, migration, or in terms of what we know as “Merantau,” reduces their risk of becoming wandering youths effectively. This study attempts to answer this question by looking at the effect of migration (lifetime migration and recent migration) on Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEET) status and looking at the influence of demographic characteristics (gender, age, education, marital status, disability status, and residential area classification) on youths (15-24 years old). Using BPS data, Sakernas 2021, and using the binary logistic regression analysis method, this study finds that lifetime and recent migration, as well as demographic characteristics (gender, age, education, marital status, disability status, and residential area classification), have a significant effect on NEET status. This study also finds the difference in the risk effect of NEET between lifetime migrants and recent migrants. Lifetime migrants are less likely to become NEETs. On the other hand, recent migrants have a greater risk of becoming NEET than non-recent migrants. The results of this study are essential in providing an overview of the risks by youth when deciding to migrate.
